Student Life

The Student Affairs Department was created to serve students by providing out-of-class opportunities to enhance their educational experiences. The Student Affairs Department endeavors to develop an individual who has not only successfully completed an academic program, but has also acquired a range of outside interests and skills in interpersonal relations. To aid in the formation of these skills, the Art Institute promotes a variety of student organizations and activities in which all students are strongly encouraged to participate.

Services:

Student Activities: The Student Development Department offers a number of quarterly activities that provide students with an opportunity to meet and mingle with each other. These include Welcome Week Events, Non-Traditional Student gatherings, Heritage Events, Summer Carnival, and an annual Halloween Party, and other seasonal events.

Clubs and Organizations: A variety of student clubs and organizations are offered to meet the needs and diversity of the student population. These groups provide students with the opportunity for professional networking, sharing common interests, and developing leadership skills.

Leadership Training: The Student Development Department offers students the chance to develop their leadership skills through participation in the Student Leadership Institute. Students who participate in this six week program have the unique opportunity to add the elements of leadership to their academic competencies to create an expansive professional repertoire. Participation in the Student Leadership Institute offers the opportunity for students to create not only memories of a lifetime, but the skills of a lifetime, too.

Health and Wellness: The Student Development Department, in conjunction with the Downtown YMCA, offers activities ("A Day at the Y" and an annual Basketball Tournament) to enhance the physical and mental well-being of the student population. In addition, each quarter Counseling Services in conjunction with the Student Development Department sponsors a Wellness Week for our students. During this week, a variety of local organizations visit the campus to provide information on a wide variety of health and wellness topics.
